How are preconceived ideas about racism and social mobility woven into our everyday lives? How does a sense of belonging, of coexistence, inherent in the diversity of class, race and gender? What is our role as social subjects in shaping a world with fewer stereotypes, and more empathy?
Menelaos Karamagiolis and the group Døcumatism, with the support of HumanRights360, participate in the NEON space of togetherness exhibition, curated by Elina Kountouri, posing some of the most pressing questions we face today, through the project “the AfroGreeks”: A collaborative community project in progress on the African diaspora which was launched in Greece and includes an extensive series of videos, interviews, social interactions, research and public actions.
Alongside the exhibition, the Døcumatism group is organising a series of activities as part of the public programme of the exhibition:
29/9/24 – “The necessity (or not) of the term Afro-Greek”.
10/10/24 – “Colour as an obstacle or limitation for an actor in Greece”: public dialogue on the difficulties and problems faced by Afro-Greek actors due to their colour and origin.
19/10/24 – “Singing and dancing in the distance between us”: participatory music and dance performance. In combination with moving image, the protagonists of the collective work in progress the AfroGreeks, create a platform for experimentation in every kind of music, inviting the audience to become part of the action.
